After playing with Prang’s inexpensive watercolor set to experiment with the medium before investing in a more proper watercolor set, I loved it and decided to purchase a Winsor & Newton Cotman 1/2  Pan Studio Watercolor Set (45 Colors). In this video, I had such a fun time unboxing and unwrapping each of the 45 colors. Each pan is wrapped individually, so it was like unboxing 45 little presents.

If you are just starting out in watercolor or your budget is tight, I found that the Prang Watercolors were actually pretty good quality for the price. The eye image showcased in this blog post was created with the Prang set as well as a bit of Caran d’Ache colored pencils. They do a pretty good job. The only complaint was needing to use a fair amount of paint for the pigment to be vibrant, but with the price being so reasonable, I did not find that to be a major deterrent. I plan to still use that set for enjoyment.
